Electric Power and Grid

Description:  Electric Power System changing rapidly in terms of technologies, organization, markets, and regulation. Integration of renewable resources into the existing grid creates challenges with load planning, operation and distribution.


Market Need:  New analysis and modeling tools and paradigms for the emerging system.


Vision: Develop a consortium of stakeholders in the electric power and related industries that face common challenges,
Penn State provides the analytical capacity and integrating role, applying engineering, science, and economic analysis to issues

Goal: Build an integrated expertise and existing collaborations at PSU that includes energy technology, electrical engineering, algorithms, economics, and policy.

 
Stakeholders: Generation owners, Distribution Utilities, Transmission Owners, Technology Companies, Solar and Wind Developers, Demand Response Aggregators, ISOs/RTOs, U.S. Dept. of Energy, FERC
